Life-Schooling

I think that all home education students should be called "life-schoolers."  Many homeschoolers spend very little time at home.  They are busy living life as they serve others, travel, visit interesting places, go to movies, attend concerts, book signings, & plays, enjoy nature, go to waterparks & amusement parks, go on mission trips, take fun and educational co-op and community Ed classes, attend or lead story times, take college courses while in high school, meet new people, ride bikes & skateboards, visit with people and write blog posts in coffee shops,  tutor, lead and participate in clubs and Bible studies, run their own businesses, go to music lessons, teach music lessons, play sports, volunteer, babysit for neighbors, work at part time jobs, visit museums, eat at restaurants, research topics of interest at the library, spend time with friends and family, and participate in band, orchestra, choir, or theater productions.  

Well-meaning friends and relatives often express concerns that my sons will not have opportunities to socialize with other kids.  I reassure them that with the flexibility and freedom that homeschool provides, there is plenty of time and more than enough opportunities to spend time with others, learn social skills, and experience the "real world."

Thoughts about Planned Parenthood & the Value of Human Life

I believe that the liberal media would express outrage if there were stories in the news about medical professionals harvesting and selling the body parts of dead puppies, rather than human babies.   Many Americans have been so desensitized, that the murder of babies does not upset them.  It makes me so sad that there are individuals who are so selfish, that they are not concerned about the pain and suffering of other people.  Human life is no longer is valued by a large percentage of individuals. .

People on this earth are believing Satan's lies about money and possessions being more important than God and all of the precious human life that He created.

1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV). "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

As a Christian, I realize that our earthly treasures are temporary.  I will not need any of my earthly possessions in Heaven.  My relationship with God, other people, and my freedom to live my life in accordance with God's Word, are what I value most in this life.  I enjoy the many luxuries that I have in this world, yet I could be satisfied with much less.

When the government tries to take away the freedoms of Christians to obey God's Word, I believe that it is time to exercise civil disobedience.  Christians who boldly stand for faith America, a country whose government boldly rejects God's laws, now face hatred and threats from government officials, their teachers, strangers, friends, families, peers, and from those who are under their leadership.

I know many people who support and promote abortion, yet they refuse to be consumers of any animal products because they object to the life of animals being taken.  This does not seem logical to me.  In our fallen world, the rights of animals often trump the rights of babies and children.  Pets often receive more attention and better care than the children, disabled, and elderly in our society.

I am glad that this world is only my temporary home!  Jesus is coming back soon and will make all things right again!  Amen!

The Value of a Christian Education

Among other ideas contrary to the Bible, government schools will likely teach your children that so-called “same-sex marriage” is legitimate, natural, and courageous, or that a baby boy or girl in the womb is not yet human."

The teachings in all of our nation's public schools reflect the worldview of secular humanism.  This worldview is deliberately anti-Biblical. It is atheism, which denies the existence of God. Most elementary children and middle school students are not yet prepared to defend their faith and stand up to the teachers who are teaching values that are against God's Word.  This causes confusion and division between the kids and their parents in the situations where the parents are teaching a Biblical worldview at home and the children adopt the values and worldview taught in school.    As Ken Ham explains, "The public schools have become churches of secular humanism."

Most Christian teachers in the public schools do not have the freedom to skip over the parts of the curriculum that include instruction that is against their personal convictions.  When I was a student in the public schools, I did appreciate when Christian teachers would write encouraging notes in my journal, sharing that they also loved Jesus.  I often saw the discouragement on those teachers faces, and the tears in their eyes, when they were talking to the students about abortion.  They were not allowed to tell their students their true feelings if they believed that  abortion is the murder of precious babies who were created in the image of a living God!

They instead read the scripted lessons as they were instructed to present,  that said, "Abortion is a legal, 'safe, and morally acceptable' choice for women who are young, unmarried, facing financial struggles, or simply not yet ready to be mothers; women who are pregnant with babies who are diagnosed with physical or cognitive disabilities; or  women who are not wanting the 'inconvenience' of a pregnancy and baby."  The physical and emotional damage and consequences created by abortions were never mentioned.

Adoption was seldom mentioned as an option for women who would be unable or unwilling to care for their unborn children.  I would not doubt that the publishers of the sex education materials either were Planned Parenthood or companies that supported the organization. The United States Deparment of Education and many teacher's unions promote and support the abortion services of Planned Parenthood. 

 My family is blessed by the many benefits of home education.  God qualifies and equips parents to teach their own children.  It will be awhile before my younger son is old enough for school, but my plan is to homeschool both boys through high school.

 
Everyday, God provides me with the skills, talents, resources, patience, and time to homeschool my boys and prepare them with the knowledge and life skills to be productive in their relationships, careers, and other tasks in life. My main goal in parenting is to raise up young men who will love the Lord with all their hearts, know how to study Biblical scripture and apply it to their own lives, and be prepared to be the spiritual leaders in their own families. These are lessons that they will not receive in the public schools. The short time that my kids would have away from public school and homework would so little time for my husband and me to teach them important lessons about our faith and the hope that is found only through Jesus Christ. The Biblical and academic training of our two boys are important priorities in our lives. Christian education happens continually throughout the day, not just at church and during family devotions time. All throughout the day we find numerous opportunities to teach our boys about the authority and goodness of God! A biblical worldview and Scripture from God's Word is woven into each academic lesson that we teach in our homeschool. We take these responsibilities seriously and trust God for guidance as we strive to honor Him in how we raise our children.

Each day, my husband and I have the time to teach my older son lessons about God's great love for all mankind; about God's free gift of salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus; about God's laws and standards for holy living; God's wise plan for marriage and sex; God's disapproval of a lifestyle of unrepented sin (including homosexuality), about the value of human life; how God created him so special and unique and has a wonderful plan for his life; how the world, all mankind, and animals were created by God, who is holy and powerful; how Jesus tells us respond when people are unkind, and other important Biblical truths.

I am truly blessed with the gift of time with my two boys.
